Sylvia Plath Quotes
Sylvia Plath Quotes Sylvia Plath is a controversial and passionate figure in American literature. A prolific writer who started writing before the age of 10, Plath is best known for her semi-autobiographical novelà The Bell Jarà and poems such as The Colossus and Lady Lazarus. Even as her words touch us to our very core, they also spur so many questions and debates. How could a woman who was filled with such beautiful and passionate words also be torn by such inner torment? She offers such a personal look at her life, love, and demons. Do we dare look away?à For a glimpse into Sylvia Plaths enduring works imbued with imagery, raw emotion, and haunting words, here is a list of quotes by the Pulitzer-winning poet.à Love and Relationships How we need another soul to cling to. Can you understand? Someone, somewhere, can you understand me a little, love me a little? For all my despair, for all my ideals, for all that - I love life. But it is hard, and I have so much - so very much to learn. I do not love; I do not love anybody except myself. That is a rather shocking thing to admit. I have none of the selfless love of my mother. I have none of the plodding, practicalà love.-à The Journals of Sylvia Plath I love people. Everybody. I love them, I think, as a stamp collector loves his collection. Every story, every incident, every bit of conversation is raw material for me. My loves not impersonal yet not wholly subjective either. I would like to be everyone, a cripple, a dying man, a whore, and then come back to write about my thoughts, my emotions, as that person. But I am not omniscient. I have to live my life, and it is the only one Ill ever have.-à The Bell Jar I lean to you, numb as a fossil. Tell me Im here. I must get my soul back from you; I am killing my flesh without it.-à The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath Kiss me and youll know how important I am. Let me live, love and say it well in good sentences.-à The Bell Jar There is nothing like puking with somebody to make you into old friends.-à The Bell Jar What did my arms do before they held you? Death Death must be so beautiful. To lie in the soft brown earth, with the grasses waving above ones head, and listen to silence. To have noà yesterday,à and no to-morrow. To forget time, to forgive life, to be at peace. -à The Bell Jar Self-Doubt And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worse enemy to creativity is self-doubt.-à The Journals of Sylvia Plath I am supposed to be having the time of my life.-à The Bell Jar I can never read all the books I want; I can never be all the people I want and live all the lives I want. I can never train myself in all the skills I want. And why do I want? I want to live and feel all the shades, tones and variations of mental and physical experience possible in life. And I am horribly limited. Inner-Tension I have the choice of being constantly active and happy or introspectively passive and sad. Or I can go mad ricocheting in between.-à The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead; I lift my eyes and all is born again. If neurotic is wanting two mutually exclusive things at one and the same time, then Im neurotic as hell. Ill be flying back and forth between one mutually exclusive thing and another for the rest of my days.- The Bell Jar Life has been some combination of fairy-tale coincidence and joie de vivre and shocks of beauty together with some hurtful self-questioning.- The Bell Jar Perhaps when we find ourselves wanting everything, it is because we are dangerously close to wanting nothing. Exuberance I felt my lungs inflate with the onrush of scenery - air, mountains, trees, people. I thought, This is what it is to be happy.-à The Bell Jar There must be quite a few things that a hot bath wont cure, but I dont know many of them. Remember, remember, this is now, and now, and now. Live it, feel it, cling to it. I want to become acutely aware of all Ive taken for granted. Thats one of the reasons I never wanted to get married. The last thing I wanted was infinite security and to be the place an arrow shoots off from. I wanted change and excitement and to shoot off in all directions myself, like the colored arrows from a Fourth of July rocket.- The Bell Jar Despair and Melancholy I talk to God but the sky is empty.-à The Bell Jar The silence depressed me. It wasnt the silence of silence. It was my own silence.- The Bell Jar The trouble was, I had been inadequate all along, I simply hadnt thought about it.- The Bell Jar There is something demoralizing about watching two people get more and more crazy about each other, especially when you are the only extra person in the room. Its like watching Paris from an express caboose heading in the opposite directionevery second the city gets smaller and smaller, only you feel its really you getting smaller and smaller and lonelier and lonelier, rushing away from all those lights and excitement at about a million miles an hour.- The Bell Jar To the person in the bell jar, blank and stopped as a dead baby, the world itself is a bad dream.-à The Bell Jar

What Happens If I Miss My AP Exam
What Happens If I Miss My AP Exam SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Sometimes life happens, and you end up missing an AP test. Naturally, since the tests are expensive and you want to take them while the material is still fresh in your mind, you may want to make up the exam. In this article, Iââ¬â¢ll go over what to do if you know in advance you wonââ¬â¢t make the test, what to do in an emergency, how AP late testing works, and situations where you might not be able to make up the test- and what to do about it. What to Do When You Know In Advance You'll Miss the Test There are a variety of reasons that you may find that the exam you signed up for a few months ago conflicts with something you canââ¬â¢t avoid. As soon as you realize you mayhave a conflict with the exam, you will need to get in touch with your schoolââ¬â¢s AP coordinator to discuss AP late testing. They will let you know if the test can be made up and how, when, and where it will happen. If you do not know who your AP coordinator is, ask someone in the school office or a guidance counselor. Your school may also have some kind of designated process for requesting late testing that someone in the main office can tell you about. For making up tests when you know about the conflict in advance, there are two scenarios: the College Board deems your conflict either "unavoidable" or "avoidable." Unavoidable Conflicts For those conflicts which the College Board deems ââ¬Å"unavoidable,â⬠they will allow you to take the make-up exam for free. Unavoidable conflicts include: You are taking two AP exams that are scheduled for the same time slot, or you are taking three or more AP exams that are scheduled for the same day. Check the 2016 schedule to see if this is you. You have an IB exam, or a state or national exam, the same day. Scheduling issues with the language lab at your school (this would primarily be a problem for foreign language exams). It is a religious holiday. The school is closed for an election or a national holiday. There is an issue with your disability accommodations (that you know about in advance). Sorry I couldn't make my AP exam; I was busy hatching. Avoidable Conflicts For other conflicts, which the College Board views as ââ¬Å"avoidable,â⬠you will be allowed to take the exam later, but you will need to pay a fee of $45. This fee is waived for those who qualify for financial assistance. Avoidable conflicts include: You have an academic event or meet (e.g. a quiz bowl or math team competition). You have a sports meet or game that conflicts with the exam. You have an exam for a class the same day. In this situation it may make more sense to arrange to take the class exam at a different time if you can instead of taking a late AP test. Your school makes a mistake when ordering the exam. (For example, they do not order enough copies for everyone who registered.) In this case your school will likely cover the fee. It is a school holiday (pre-planned, not a national holiday, and not an emergency). You have a family commitment. If you are not sure if your conflict qualifies you to take a late exam, discuss it with your AP coordinator. They will be the one who ultimately coordinates all late testing for your school. You can also call the College Board to discuss scheduling issues at (212) 632-1781 or (877) 274-6474 (the second number is toll-free in USA and Canada). But what if you miss your exam unexpectedly, in spite of your best-laid plans? This fire extinguisher just realized she missed her exam. What to DoWhen Something Unexpected Comes Up There may be situations when you have a sudden emergency and cannot make the exam. In this case, you should let your schoolââ¬â¢s AP exam coordinator know as soon as possible so they can coordinate your make-up examthe coordinator is the person who will order all late exams for your school, so it is up to them to decide if you will be allowed to take a make-up exam. Should they allowit, they will let you know when, where, and how to take the late exam. The College Board will not charge you for a late exam due to an emergency. Potential emergencies include: An unforeseen issue with your disability accommodations. A bomb scare or fire alarm at your school. A natural disaster. A labor strike at your school. A family tragedy. A serious injury or illness If you just have the sniffles, you may want to just bring a box of tissues. If you have a splitting headache, a sore throat, and canââ¬â¢t talk, consider skipping your exam and going to the doctor (to get a note). Late exams are a pain, but you also donââ¬â¢t want to get a 2 instead of a 4 because you feel light-headed and nauseated the whole time. But what if you miss the exam for a non-emergency reason? Decisions on all make-up exams are up to the school AP exam coordinator. So whether you slept through your alarm, or your little sister threw the entire contents of your backpack into the trash, or you got in a fender bender on your way to school, take your case to the exam coordinator. If they say no, itââ¬â¢s not awesome, but itââ¬â¢s also not the most horrible thing in the world. If they say yes, great! Read on to know what to expect when you make up your test. What Happens When You Make Up the Exam? The College Board has designated late testing dates for AP exams. If you canââ¬â¢t take it the first go-round, you will take it on the designated make-up day. Note that barring some highly unusual circumstances, once you open your AP exam you are no longer eligible for late testing. So unfortunately, if you toss your cookies in the middle of the test, you wonââ¬â¢t be able to make it up later. Note that you will be taking an alternate form of the test. This is so that students who take late exams wonââ¬â¢t be able to get any information on the exam content from their classmates. Other than that, the experience will be similar to any other AP test. You can check out the AP late testing schedule for 2016 at the College Board. The AP late testing dates for 2016 are May 17, 18, and 19. What IfYou Canââ¬â¢t Make Up the Exam? As mentioned, whether or not you can make up your exam is primarily up to your AP exam coordinator, who requests the make-up exams through the College Board. They may allow you to make up your exam even if you do something like sleep through your alarm or forget about your test and go to your regular class. However, you canââ¬â¢t count on that, so donââ¬â¢t be like this person who went back to her house because she forgot a pen and then decided to try an alternate route to the school (someone will loan you a pen if you forget it!) Pack your bag with everything you need the night before and leave for school early. If worst comes to worst and you miss the exam (and canââ¬â¢t make it up), your hopes and dreams are not dead. You will probably be out the ninety bucks you paid for the exam (although you may be able to negotiate that with your schoolââ¬â¢s exam coordinator) but it wonââ¬â¢t appear on a score report or anything. No one will know you missed the exam, and colleges donââ¬â¢t necessarily expect that you will take the AP exam for every AP-level class you take. If you still want the college credit or the score, you can take the test next year, although you will probably have to put in some serious study time to remember everything. Key Takeaways on Late Testing Missing AP exams happens. As soon as you realize you have a conflict, or an emergency on test day, get in touch with your schoolââ¬â¢s AP exam coordinator. If you donââ¬â¢t know who that is, it may be in your best interest to find out now! If you are allowed to make up the test, you will take an alternate form a couple of weeks after the regularly scheduled exam.If you canââ¬â¢t make it up, the exam wonââ¬â¢t show up on your score report. Go forth and conquer, noble AP adventurers! What's Next? Do you have a conflict with your SAT test date? Comparative planetology - Essay Example * "Negative values of rotation period indicate that the planet rotates in the direction opposite to that in which it orbits the Sun. This is called retrograde rotation". From the above table it can be implied that retrograde rotation is followed by Venus, Uranus and Pluto in the whole solar system (Windows to the Universe, UCAR, 2000-2005). All the planets have eccentricities close to 0, so they must have orbits which are nearly circular" (Windows to the Universe, UCAR, 2000-2005). The interiors of the earth can be broadly categorized on the basis of layering by density and layering by strength. In layering by density the earth has three layers called Core, Mantle and Crust and in layering by strength of the rock. The strength of a rock depends on its composition, its temperature, and the surrounding pressure. (Bennett, J., et al, 2004, The cosmic perspective, Chapters 10.2). Career Planning Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 1
Career Planning - Essay Example The duties of a Market Researcher almost match with my work interests. The job is almost all about dealing with data. This involves planning, control, implementation, reports, and analysis. To be specific, it involves the study of what people buy, require, think, and do. And the findings of such study usually help companies to identify the factors affecting product demand and also the potential markets of the firm. I am genuinely good at studying the client related topics and also advising the related people about making use of the research findings. I am aware of the possible challenges associated with meeting this plan. I have studied Accounting and Finance as main subjects but if I want to concentrate on the Marketing field, I have to develop qualities like good communication skill, awareness of the latest trends, and also should be familiar with the latest technologies. Minimum knowledge in psychology is also needed while handling the issues of different people. I admit that my k nowledge and experience with regard to HR and consumer behaviour is incomplete or unsatisfying and therefore I will have to face more challenges. When I started working in the banking field, I could realize that I had much more to learn and expertise in marketing strategy. I am sure that my MSc in Strategic Marketing from the worldââ¬â¢s most renowned institution will make me capable of addressing all the challenges in my profession. Generally, the academic and cultural heritage of an institution determines the level of nourishment it can provide for the overall development of its students. I admire the Imperial Collegeââ¬â¢s great legacy of 100 years of teaching. Since the college specializes in most prominent areas such as Science, Engineering, Medicine and Business, it has contributed so many legends to the world include Nobel Prize winners, great scientists, world famous designers, actors and poets. I would like to stick to the same profession improving myself day by day. I am aware that the carrier progression in Market Research depends on oneââ¬â¢s merits and experience. With regard to my long term plan, I would like to attain the post of Account Director of a well established firm in UK. Since my carrier started in the banking sector, I am willing to choose my long term carrier in the very sector. I believe that the post of an Account director will help me utilize my full potential. In todayââ¬â¢s business environment, launching the right product in the right time and at the right place is a key factor to the success of a company. It requires accurate forecasting, which is evidently one of the responsibilities of the accounting director. Another responsibility of the faculty is to ensure return on every investment, which is possible only by maintaining strict budgeting controls. It depends on the competency of an accounting manger if a firm can have its own unique way of business development. A company can develop its own distinct way of mar keting only if the accounting manger and his crew are innovative and adaptive. This task lies between the planning session and the ultimate feedback on retail reality. Admittedly, my goal of achieving my desired designation is not very easy. It requires several skills. In the case of my short term plan as a Market Researcher, I must develop an analytical mind along with thorough knowledge in statistics, psychology, and behavioural science. A market researcher

Gawain, noble or naïve? Essay -- Essays Papers
Gawain, noble or naà ¯ve? Gawain, nephew of the famed Arthur of the Round Table, is depicted as the most noble of knights in the poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Nonetheless, he is not without fault or demerit, and is certainly susceptible to conflict. Gawain, bound to chivalry, is torn between his knightly edicts, his courtly obligations, and his mortal thoughts of self-preservation. This conflict is most evident in his failure of the tests posed by the wicked Morgan le Fay. With devious tests of temptation and courage, Morgan is able to create a mockery of the courtly and knightly ideal, through Gawain's failure of these tests. By satirizing the effects of Gawain's inner conflicts, the unnamed Gawain poet reveals that even the best of men are innately selfish and subject to thoughts reprehensible to the chivalrous code. In order to satirize Gawain's courtly ways, the poet must first convey a sense of chivalric quintessence in Gawain toward the reader, only to later mock that sense of perfection with failure. This quintessence is created in part through the diction used to describe Gawain throughout the poem. He is described as "noble" and "goodly" on more than one occasion, giving the reader a positive perception of the poem's hero (405, 685). This sublime view of Gawain is further substantiated by his noble acceptance of the Green Knight's beheading game, in order to "release the king outright" from his obligation (365). Even among famed knights such as Yvain and Agravain, both worthy of exaltation, Gawain was the first to accept the Green Knight's terms. His acceptance of the beheading game when no other knight would allows the reader to assume that Gawain represents the most noble of Arthur's court. Lastly, even the... ...mocks Arthur's court and his so-called honor, and is in concordance with Morgan le Fay's plan to make a fool out of Arthur and his knights. Although Gawain's actions are not chivalrous and makes the court appear foolish, he learns a lesson from his actions. He realizes the disgrace in his actions, calling his own heart "cowardly and covetous" (2374). By taking responsibility for his actions, Gawain allows the reader to forgive him. This forgiveness is allowed because the conflicts within Gawain force him into situations that will result in unavoidable disaster. By showing the reader that even the best of knights is not perfect, the poet reveals that the balance between knightly morals, courtliness, and thoughts of selfishness is able to be breached. “Coming Back” by David Hill and “Tully” by Paullina Simons
ââ¬ËTeenagers donââ¬â¢t always know all the answers. Texts can offer important lessons, which may assist responders in reflecting their own valuesââ¬â¢.Ignorant, unknowledgeable nature of youth exists as a naturalistic quality amongst teenagers; characters within the texts ââ¬ËComing Backââ¬â¢ by David Hill and ââ¬ËTullyââ¬â¢ by Paullina Simons further endorse this characteristic. The themes of guilt and recovery as well as Pain and friendship provide insight into fundamental lessons that attest the responderââ¬â¢s values.A central concern addressed in ââ¬ËComing backââ¬â¢ by David Hill is the primary battle existent within Ryan, which is endorsed in a series of actions that Hill associates with guilt. Both Ryan and Tara are heavily affected by the results of a tragic, traffic accident that hospitalized Tara Gower due to the negligence and recklessness of Ryan and his peers.Ryan foreshadows the car accident; repetition, short sentences and colloquial lan guage- ââ¬Å"If only. Two little words with one massive bloody meaning. If onlyâ⬠emphasizing Ryanââ¬â¢s guilt and regret in conjunction with the accident. Direct language, low modality, negative connotations- ââ¬Å"I had to punish myself. Hurt myself.â⬠Forceful, objective tone and repetition in Ryanââ¬â¢s speech reiterate his guilt, as self- harmful thoughts began to justify his physical actions and behavior. Self -harm is a common result of pain amongst youth, which is demonstrated through the insightful texts of both ââ¬ËComing Backââ¬â¢ and ââ¬ËTullyâ⬠, evidently guidance is often essential for teenagers during adolescents.Unknowing nature can result in fear, hence freezing recovery processes. Tara Gowerââ¬â¢s recovery was often simultaneously affected by her fears and fears of the unknown. The enormity of Taraââ¬â¢s recovery is continuously illustrated throughout the text; demonstrated by the use of formal jargon- ââ¬Å"An impact severe e nough to cause brain injury may also cause damage to other organs resulting in contusions of the heartâ⬠reflecting the serious notions of Taraââ¬â¢s condition, whilst providing facts and extenuating the trauma of the car accident.Medical context also reflects Ryanââ¬â¢s fears, providing dense, factual realizations that he unfortunately caused. Imagery, personification, metaphorical language-ââ¬Å"I was too tired to fight it. All around me the river kept eating away.â⬠Demonstrating Taraââ¬â¢s dream like state and reflecting herà fears of fading away. Initially Taraââ¬â¢s language is figurative and short, however her language develops over time. First person, imagery, positive connotations, high modality- ââ¬Å"I felt myself swallowing. Orange Juice. A chocolate milkshake-my favorite!â⬠indicating she was able to distinguish taste, but not able to feed herself during this point of recovery. Some of the most tragic issues are best conveyed in the depth of a novel, as they provide insight into fundamental lessons that attest the responderââ¬â¢s values.Pain is an explicit theme present in the text ââ¬ËTullyââ¬â¢ by Paullina Simons; how Tully copes with pain is a fundamental aspect of this text. The full horrors of Tullyââ¬â¢s childhood are slowly unveiled; although the narrative begins when she is 17, flashbacks and accounts of her torn experiences as a child characterize her behavior and beliefs. She was abandoned by her father and unwanted by her abusive mother from a young age; repetitive clauses, negative connotations, recurring motif- ââ¬Å"From the time Tully was two, she learned fear and with fear she learned hate, and with hate she learned silenceâ⬠demonstrating she was raised in an atmosphere of neglect and unpredictable violence. Her pain resulted in self harm; metaphor, imagery, personification- ââ¬Å"I do it because I want to feel what death feels like. I just want unconsciousness to wash over me- to h eal myselfâ⬠illustrating the irony and juxtaposed nature of healing and death, provoking feelings of anxiety, portraying how damaged Tully has become. ââ¬ËTullyââ¬â¢ offers important lessons, which are relevant to societies concerns and beliefs.Friendship that endures through life times is a bold theme explicit in ââ¬ËTullyââ¬â¢. Regardless of her pain she found refuge in friendship with Jennifer and Julie, until Jennifer committed suicide in their senior year. She wrote a letter to Tully prior to her death; religious references, high modality, colloquialisms, metaphorical language- ââ¬Å"God is going to call upon you to summon all your strength, all your iron clad, gritted teeth, clenched fists will to pull you throughâ⬠demonstrating Jennifer believes Tully is unbreakable and will overcome her death, however, Tully sees it as an act of betrayal and is shattered by the harsh loss of Jennifer.Tully spent many hours compulsively cleaning the bathroom afterâ⠬ ¦ and the unforgettable expressionless face of Jenââ¬â¢s father; low modality, emotive language,à imagery- ââ¬Å"he is still stunned, yet Iââ¬â¢m already falling, already canââ¬â¢t breathe without herâ⬠illustrating her affection towards Jennifer. Jenniferââ¬â¢s death had a huge impact on Tully, which reflects her future behavior and values. The themes of guilt, recovery, pain and friendship are undying concepts present in many teenagers lives, the notions of these themes are universal as ignorant, unknowledgeable nature of youth exists as a naturalistic quality amongst teenagers; characters within the texts ââ¬ËComing Backââ¬â¢ by David Hill and ââ¬ËTullyââ¬â¢ by Paullina Simons further endorse this characteristic, demonstrating that teenagers do not always know the answers.

The Product Of Baked Products - 832 Words
Abstract The term Baked products is applied to a wide range of food products including breads, cakes, pastries, cookies, crackers and many other products. It can be difficult to identify a common thread linking the members of such a diverse group. The most commonly-identified link is that they all use recipes that are based on wheat flour. However, the same leniency of definition could hardly be extended to include meringues, which contain no cereal-based material at all, let alone wheat flour, their main components being sugar and egg white. It may be more appropriate to consider that baked products are those products which are manufactured in a bakery that is the place of manufacture defines the product rather than some ingredient, recipe or process feature. One view is that baked products should be defined as having undergone heat processing ââ¬â baking ââ¬â which causes changes in both form and structure.
